Homeschool With Index Cards Not Just for Flashcards Anymore!
|

Here is the excerpt from the Information page:
"This is not meant to be rigorous nor intensive. I highly recommend natural learning as
taught by Dr. Ruth Beechick, and I have strived to create these lessons to correlate
with her methodology.
The Language Lessons all focus on Scriptures from Genesis 1. Through the use of these
lessons, you will be able to introduce your children to several Grammar and Mechanics
rules. You will be using pre-created copywork sheets, as well as several index cards.
You will use index cards for lessons plans, Language Handbook rules, and verse
memorization.
GRAMMAR:
You will focus on 6 parts of speech throughout the weeks ahead:
1. Nouns—the basis for most beginning grammar studies, as well as one of the
easiest places to start. You will work on learning the definition of a noun, as well as
recognizing nouns in the coordinating verses.
2. Verbs—what I feel is the second most important part of grammar studies. You
will work on learning the basic definition of a verb, as well as recognizing verbs in the
verses.
3. Pronouns—the words that take the place of a noun are used so commonly, that
it is a great time to introduce them. You will find the definition, plus a great list of
personal and possessive pronouns.
4. Adjectives—it get a little trickier with these describing words. However, you
will find an easy, relaxed, natural introduction to adjectives in this lesson.
5. Prepositions—a very important part to understanding the function of a
sentence. However, this is a great place to start learning at least the names of the
most common prepositions.
6. Conjunctions—a great way to get them to learn about those little words that are
used so often in our language and writing. Help students get a basic understanding of
their jobs, then help them memorize the 3 most common!
MECHANICS:
You will also be focusing on a few mechanics rules to help get your student(s)
acquainted with these important concepts:
1. Punctuation—in the first week, we will go over the types of sentences, as well
as the appropriate punctuation mark for each. Your child will be introduced to the
period, question mark, and exclamation point. However, the period will be focused on
in the lessons as the ending punctuation for the sentences. This will be introduced in
the first week, but should be reviewed each additional lesson.
2. Capitalization—we will focus on the use of capitals at the beginning of
sentences, as well as for proper names.
3. Quotation Marks—those cute little marks around words spoken. Help your child
(ren) see that this sets apart the words spoken.
4. Comma—words in a series are set apart by a comma, to help keep everything
separated and organized. Who knew they were such great organizational tools? You
will also introduce your children to commas being used to separate phrases as well.
We will spend several lessons working with commas.
I, of course, am in no way an English expert! My goal with this set is to help you begin
your journey with easy, natural, and relaxed language lessons. So, if you see
something that your child needs to work on that I have not covered in the lessons, feel
free to change it up. If you need more work on certain items, I have only scheduled
language lessons for 3 days per week. You can take this extra time to further study
your desired language topics."
You will be able to do a trial run through using a Language Handbook, copywork, and
weekly Bible memorization, if you haven't already tried them.
