Weather Center
A great topic to teach our children is about the weather. We can teach them to learn about the different
aspects of daily weather, such as temperature, barometer pressure, humidity, dewpoint, etc. This Weather
Center Set is created to either supplement your lessons on weather or use as a stand alone weather center.
This set is appropriate for beginners through intermediate weather lessons. In this set you will find cards to
create your own weather center. The sets include: Daily Weather, How Does It Feel, Seasons, Weather Cards,
Numbers for the Center, and Title Cards for the different topics.
Daily Weather:
This set includes cards for Outside Temperature, Dewpoint, time for Sunrise and Sunset, Humidity, Barometer,
Visibility, and Wind. Each of these is on a different card. Just print and cut out the accompanying numbers to
be used with these cards. I recommend placing Velcro on the backs of the numbers as well as in the boxes of
the Daily Weather Cards to make it easier to affix them together. In the Daily Weather Card boxes, you would
want to space it out to place up to 3 numbers, depending on your temperatures. For instance, if your location
commonly has temperatures above 100°, you will want to have space for 3 numbers. If you rarely reach that
mark, you only need to make space for 2 numbers. Another thought is if your temperatures reach below 0°,
you will want to take a scrap of index card and place a – on it to represent below 0°. Affix a small piece of
Velcro to the left of the number box to add the negative sign, if needed. Any additional information needed for
the cards can be obtained on your local weather channel or any online weather or news site.
How Does It Feel:
These cards are to get your young ones used to figuring out what the weather feels like outside. There are
cards for Hot, Warm, Cold, and Cool. This will also help them to learn to dress for the weather.
Seasons:
An important part of our weather revolves around the seasons. The set includes cards for Summer, Spring,
Winter, Fall, and Autumn, depending on which term you use.
Weather Cards:
These are also part of the daily weather. You will be able to look outside to tell if it is Partly Sunny, Sunny,
Rainy, Stormy, Snowy, Cloudy, or Windy.
There are also a few title cards for the different areas included in the set.
You can handle the cards a few ways. You can use a bulletin board and push pins for the cards. Each day you
would be able to see the weather board. You could also use a large piece of cardboard, if a bulletin board is
not available. You can place adhesive magnets on the backs of the cards and use an appliance as your weather
center. If you lack a lot of space, hole-punch the cards and place them in an index card binder. Or simply
place them in an index card file box with dividers for each topic.
